About Kylie’s Project

During her time as a 2025 Brave Heart Fellow, Kylie launched Thin Ground, Heavy Steps, a climate resilience workshop series that blends Indigenous knowledge with scientific research. Inspired by the devastating landslides, glacial outburst floods and ecological changes affecting Alaska, Kylie created a curriculum to help communities better understand and prepare for the accelerating impacts of climate change in the region.

Through interviews with Elders, Indigenous leaders and climate scientists, Kylie developed an accessible workshop series covering permafrost melt, glacial retreat, food security and coastal erosion. She built and launched a website to house the content and serve as a growing resource hub for Alaskans. Her ultimate goal is to empower communities across Alaska by making climate data and traditional knowledge not only understandable, but actionable.
